Life science companies looking to explore the possibility of doing business in Northeast Ohio can meet leaders from the City of Mentor from May 14-16.
An international trade delegation is visiting Nottingham Trent University and the Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
The Mentor Delegation will visit Nottingham Trent University on Tuesday 14 May and the Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference on 15-16 May, to explore the international trade and collaboration opportunities available for life science companies in the East and West Midlands.
In August of last year, Medilink Midlands and the City of Mentor announced a strategic partnership to promote trade and investment between the two regions. In October of last year, this led to a successful Medilink Midlands trade mission to the City of Mentor and the Cleveland Clinic Innovation Summit. As part of the growing relationship between the two regions, a reciprocal offer was made for a delegation from Mentor to visit the UK.
The City of Mentor, in Northeast Ohio, is a 20-minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Mentor is becoming a focal point for the Northeast Ohio cluster of over 700 biomedical companies, including over 400 medical device manufacturers specialising in imaging, neuro-stimulation, orthopaedics, cardiovascular, and sterilisation. Among these are world leaders such as General Electric Healthcare, Siemens, Toshiba, Hitachi, Philips Healthcare, and STERIS. STERIS Corporation was founded in Mentor in 1985. Other Mentor biomedical companies include Volk Optical, Frantz Medical Group, SourceOne Merry X-Ray Corporation, and Integrated Medical Solutions.
Northeast Ohio is also home to internationally recognised clinical research institutions, including the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University, providing Mentor biomedical and medtech companies with a platform for research, design, and innovation.
Mentor has a number of key benefits for life science companies looking to set up a base for operations in the USA. Manufacturing costs are low, the region has a stable and experienced workforce and the local government is pro-business and committed to ensuring the continued economic success of the city. Kenneth Filipiak, City Manager of Mentor, will speak further on the collaboration and trade opportunities open to Midlands Life Science companies, at the Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference on 16 May.
The Mentor team will be able to assist companies who are interested in doing business in Northeast Ohio and establishing a business in the region. There is also the opportunity for companies to join a trade mission to Mentor in October this year, in collaboration with Medilink Midlands.
There will be opportunities for companies to meet with delegation from Mentor at the following times:
- Tuesday 14 May at Nottingham Trent University (12:00-1:00pm); Over a light lunch at the Nottingham Conference Centre (NG1 4BU).
- Wednesday 15 May at Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference at the NEC, Birmingham (2:00pm-4:00pm); one-on-one meetings can be booked in the afternoon. The City of Mentor will also be attending the Medilink UK Awards dinner that evening.
- Thursday 16 May at Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference at the NEC, Birmingham (10:00am-12:00pm); one-on-one meetings can be booked in the morning.
Medilink Midlands and Mentor are also looking to set up a biosciences trade mission to Northeast Ohio, from 21 – 23 October 2019. Highlights will include attendance at the Cleveland Clinic’s Innovation Summit and visits to regional biomedical innovation, R&D and business development agencies and institutions, including the Global Centre for Health Innovation and Case Western Reserve University. There will also be networking opportunities with American biomedical and medtech companies.
