Day One has plenty of insight from government and many other thought leaders on the more contemporary issues surrounding medical technology, including insights from the show floor, and Day Two is no different. Day Two might feature a little less from government, but more of a focus on device development, outsourcing and working with the NHS.

Day Two is headlined by a keynote fireside chat on the Med-Tech Innovation Conference Stage between Johnson and Johnson MedTech and Barts Health NHS Trust. This hour-long session will also invite participation from the audience to ask any questions they have as Dr. Paul Bhogal from Barts Health NHS Trust and Gianluca Casali from Johnson & Johnson MedTech UK & Ireland will explore the current challenges in the stroke care pathway, and how industry partners can play a role in tackling these challenges through innovation and diversity of thought.

From Midday on Day Two, a 90-minute session featuring key players from organisations who work within and closely with the NHS will discuss how to go about Unlocking NHS Access. Chris Rowe from Innovate UK will moderate the session, featuring a panel discussion following presentations under the theme of a ‘Lock & Key’ analogy developed to help companies understand and address these key areas to assist successful adoption by the NHS.

Sandwiched in between, Professor Adrian Porch from the University of Cardiff will discuss more about the journey of GlucoRx’s non-invasive wearable biosensor for glucose monitoring.

Alan Finnerty, technology director of Medovate, will address the theme of medical device outsourcing. This session will identify common challenges faced when outsourcing activities in the medical device industry, from the earliest stage of the product development process through to contract manufacturing. Alan will cover particular challenges recently posed by the pandemic and changing regulatory requirements along with tips provided on how to address these.

The Conference Stage will conclude with a session from Barbara Harpham, chair of the Medical Technology Group and Daniel Jones from Stryker, as they bring us up to speed with the Government's health innovation initiatives, how the MTG is supporting patients and the industry, and how members can highlight their medical technology innovations to the NHS for the betterment of patient outcomes.

3D printing feature session

The Introducing Health-Tech Stage will kick off with an hour-long session from Maryam Qureshi from HP 3D Printing and Doug Young from Crispin Orthotics to explain the advantages of additive manufacturing for end-use parts, real-world applications in the medical field, and best practices for designing for Multi Jet Fusion.

Like with Day One, Day Two also has its share from the show floor featuring presentations from exhibitors HealthTech Enterprise, BioInteractions, AND Technology Research and Albis – covering topics such as demonstrating the value of your innovation, why coatings are the future for medical device OEMs, navigating regulatory hurdles for software/technology based products, and challenges of selecting materials for healthcare applications. We’ll also hear a session on the importance of brand credibility and the latest in medical adhesives and why selecting the right adhesives is crucial in any project.

PITCH

For the third year running, the NIHR, SBRI Healthcare and Innovate UK will host a PITCH competition featuring the budding young companies from this year’s Start-up Zone. Concluding the show on the Introducing Health-Tech Stage, this quick-fire session will demonstrate how those with the fresh ideas feel their innovations and products will transform healthcare in front of an expert panel of judges.
