The Sempre Group to highlight automated metrology benefits

Industry metrology specialist The Sempre Group will exhibit at Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2023 to help medical device and technology manufacturers understand the benefits of automated metrology and how it can enhance their quality processes.

In Hall 2 at the NEC on Stand E41, Sempre will showcase its full turnkey automated solution for medical parts, including its optical coordinate measurement machine (CMM) with automated metrology fixturing and data collection software.

When bringing a medical device to market, there is no room for error — even the smallest defect can have dangerous consequences for patients. Integrating metrology into production can help manufacturers gather accurate and traceable evidence to validate their device, enabling them to implement an effective quality management system (QMS). For example, when measuring intricate components like syringes, manufacturers can use bespoke metrology fixtures to position and secure the part for repeatable and reproducible results as well as achieving 360-degree access.

On the stand Sempre will showcase the Micro-Vu Vertex, a multi-sensing CMM that can measure a wide range of parts and assemblies. This includes plastic and injection moulds commonly found in medical applications, which the Sempre team can discuss with visitors. It will also feature a metrology fixture that it designed specifically for medical parts, which will be installed on the Micro-Vu system to demonstrate the full turnkey system in front of visitors.

The stand will also include the Prolink SPC and High QA Inspection Manager software, which automatically creates inspection plans and reports, further enhancing quality processes. On 7 June from 14:40-15:00pm, Sempre’s director Jason McGlynn will give a talk on “Metrology in MedTech: Improving Quality Throughout the Product Lifecycle”, that will explore the benefits of metrology for the wider industry.

McGlynn added: "Automated metrology is a game-changer for the medical industry and these systems can help manufacturers prevent minor defects from blocking their route to market. Automated systems like Micro-Vu allow us to deliver better quality products in a more efficient way, which is vital for improving patient outcomes.

“Integrating metrology into every stage of a medical device’s product lifecycle can streamline validation and production. Meanwhile, automated, real-time data collection software, like High QA, can provide total visibility and control of data across the entire manufacturing process. Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2023 is a great opportunity to reach out to the wider industry, showcase our expertise and demonstrate how medical manufacturers can benefit from this technology.”

Sempre offers a full turnkey solution for the medical industry. Its offering ranges from the automated ballooning of engineering drawings to the design and manufacture of bespoke static, rotary and automated rotary fixtures that hold components steady while being measured on a metrology system.
