Healthtech Sessions: Photonics & wearable health devices

The range of talks at Med-Tech Innovation Expo means that there is something everyone. Whether you’re a manufacturer, a company representative or simply an interested visitor, Med-Tech Innovation Expo has something for you.

On the afternoon of day one over at the Healthtech Stage, Dr Tom Harvey, strategic programmes manager, Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) will offer insights into the advancements taking place for wearable and hybrid printable electronics.

Dr Harvey will discuss how the next generation of devices are being developed to meet the challenges of healthy ageing, personalised medicine and home healthcare.

He will also talk about how photonics is enabling devices to be used as minimally invasive methods to diagnose, monitor and treat patients. Advancements of various light sources, detectors and optical systems now show great promise for healthcare applications.

More so, Dr Harvey will highlight how innovations in the manufacture of flexible electronic components and systems are opening up new market opportunities afforded by the ability to embed electronics functionality into medical devices or packaging.

The talk will illustrate these points with examples taken from CPI’s recent work.
