On International Women's Day, 10 women who lead the way in medtech
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we have compiled a few names that are among the most influential female voices in femtech, medtech and digital health.
They include founders of companies active in women’s health and other pioneers in the industry. Some of the names are well-established but we’ve also included a few other names who have recently been recognised for their contribution to the industry.
Ida Tin: is the CEO and co-founder of period tracking app, Clue. The app was launched in 2013 and as well as being a facility for health tracking, there is an extensive amount of writing among the website tailored to women’s health.
Carla Brenner: Carla founded Healthtech Women in 2013. The non-profit organisation aims to support women who are using technology to change or impact the health landscape. Carla’s organisation brings together like-minded females across the industry and aims to support.
Stephanie Berman: Stephanie’s journey into the industry started out when trying to reproduce with her wife at home. Her product, The Semenette, an ejaculating strap-on dildo allows lesbian couples to recreate penetrative sex and conceive within their own home rather than going through other treatments.
Elina Berglund: Along with her husband Raoul, Elina founded Natural Cycles when they were searching for an effective method of birth control when they were thinking about starting a family. Knowing more about her fertility data, Elina created an algorithm that would eventually lead to the creation of the digital contraception app Natural Cycles.
Tania Boler: Tania is the co-founder of Elvie which develops smart technology for women. Tania’s company has since developed products including the Elive trainer to strengthen a woman’s pelvic floor, and the Elvie pump, a silent wearable breast pump
Lydia Yarlott: Lydia is an NHS paediatrician and the co-founder of Forward Health – which aims to connect healthcare teams around the world. The ultimate aim is to allow healthcare professionals to spend more time with their patients. Claire Novorol: Dr Novorol is one of the co-founders of Ada Health – which tries to bring personalised healthcare to everyone. The platform is AI-powered that aims to give patients greater understanding about their health and navigate to appropriate care. She has previously served as a paediatrician before specialising in clinical genetics.
Alex Haslehurst: Alex is the co-founder and CTO of Vitrue Health and has been recognised for her work with a Women in Innovation Award for 2019. Her company, Vitrue Health, uses data for a digital assessment of a patient’s health.
Debbie Wake: Dr Wake is the CEO and chief medical officer at MyWay Digital Health, and is the clinical lead for My Diabetes My Way, and has also been recognised with a Women in Innovation Award. The company aims to improve the life of diabetes patients through digital solutions.
Sheana Yu: Sheana is the inventor of a device built into wheelchairs which monitors movement in order to improve the patient’s comfort and posture. Sheana is the founder and CEO of Aergo, and is among the 2019 Women in Innovation Award winners.
