Webinar to consider current post-Brexit situation in life sciences

Medilink Midlands will be hosting a webinar with Mills & Reeve to consider the situation in life sciences ten months on after the implementation of the UK’s Brexit deal with the EU.

Following the end of the Brexit transition period – we are seeing a set of challenges and opportunities facing the life science sector, a time of technological change across fields like biotech, medtech and AI.

Among the specific challenges are the new, dual systems for mainland UK and Northern Ireland, with NI needing to apply regulations flowing from Brussels. Sales in NI may require new Economic Operator arrangements, for example.

Alongside these challenges, the UK is finding its feet in developing its own systems and structures. Opportunities like a more flexible and permissive regulatory model, involving acceptance of goods approved elsewhere subject to proportionate, risk-based controls, could see a reduced regulatory burden, especially for smaller innovators. The fresh approach proposed in the Taskforce on Innovation, Growth and Regulatory Reform report offers a prospect of real benefits to industry.

Businesses across the sector also continue to face challenges and opportunities in recruiting and retaining talented staff. These include the new (but continually) evolving points-based immigration system, competition for the best people, and staff engagement – all in the context of new ways of working as we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 lockdown.

James Fry, Isabel Teare and Tracy Yates from Mills & Reeve will consider the above challenges plus providing the opportunity for you to ask questions.

This webinar takes place on 27th October at 10:30, and you can register here
