Gerresheimer acquires Sensile Medical

Drug delivery device maker Gerresheimer has announced it will acquire Sensile Medical as it extends its business model towards digital and electronic capabilities.

Sensile Medical develops drug delivery products and platforms, including digital connected capabilities which will be incorporated into Gerresheimer’s new strategy. The company works with customers on the development of devices for diabetics and patients with heart complaints.

Gerresheimer will acquire Sensile Medical for a maximum price of €350 million with an initial payment of €175 million. The company’s new business model is focused on an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for drug delivery platforms with digital and electronic capabilities for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical customers.

Gerresheimer has also announced it has acquired two new contracts, one for the manufacture of inhalers and another for prefillable syringes for a major heparin producer.

The company has also lost an order in its inhaler unit and has announced it will close its plant in Küssnacht, Switzerland by the end of 2019.

More so, Gerresheimer states that it has readjusted its capital expenditures for the next two years and has expansions planned at its plant in Horsovsky Tyn, Czech Republic and will develop a new plant in Eastern Europe.
