Health company launches predictive blood test results service

Thriva has launched its service to give anyone a 95% accurate benchmark on their blood results, without having to do a test. The service is available for free, accessible to all and takes less than five minutes to complete. 

The Predicted Results service has been developed by Thriva’s in-house doctors and data scientists using machine learning and an anonymised data set of 800,000 tests completed by existing customers. With a few online questions, Thriva can predict what someone’s blood test could reveal.

This new feature builds on Thriva’s existing health service which includes testing, health plans and supplements. It allows anyone to gain insight into what their health might look like across 12 different tests, including cholesterol, liver function and diabetes indicators.

“Despite blood tests being routine across many areas of the world, there is little education in the UK around the benefits of tracking what really matters through regular testing. We wanted to use our experience and insight to develop a truly accessible service for all. We hope these predicted results will enable people to gain a snapshot of their health, and understand what they might be able to do, through simple lifestyle changes, to improve it over time.”

People are asked to fill in a short questionnaire about their lifestyle habits and medical history. Using machine learning, this information is compared to 800,000+ anonymised blood results to predict results for 12 different tests with 95% accuracy.

Predictions will come with an estimated range on where the individual’s result sits — (normal, abnormal or optimal).

Although 95% accurate, predicted results are a prediction, so it’s important to view the results with that in mind. A blood test is the only way to confirm an actual result.
