Last chance for North East innovators to enter Bright Ideas competition

Innovators in the North East are being urged to submit their entries to a competition that is searching for the next, best ideas in healthcare before its closing date.

The Bright Ideas in Health Awards competition is celebrating the ground-breaking work coming from front line NHS staff, academia and SMEs in the North East and North Cumbria.

Now in its 15th year, the competition includes five categories: Development of an Innovative Device or Technology; Service Improvement; Innovation Champion of the Year; Demonstrating an Impact upon Patient Safety and Research Impact: Improving Patient Care.

The winners of each category will be announced at a ceremony on 29 November at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel, which is set to be attended by chief executives of regional NHS Foundation Trusts, CCG, local government representatives and others.

The awards are organised by the Academic Health Science Network North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC) who hope that the competition spurs innovation forward in the NHS from inception to commercialisation.

Winners will receive a cash prize to help progress their ideas as well as specialist support from experts at AHSN NENC.

Charlotte Fox, a newly appointed innovation manager at AHSN was involved in the winning entry in the 2017 Innovative Device category of the awards.

“I’d encourage anyone with a great idea – whether it’s a groundbreaking piece of technology or a better way of delivering a service – to enter the competition, as the awards can lead to new opportunities to develop your ideas further. It is a really exciting time to be working in healthcare in the North East and I am looking forward to finding out more about this year’s entrants,” Fox said.

The deadline for applications is 26 September 2018, interested parties can apply here.
