BusinessCloud unveils top 50 medtech and healthtech firms for 2021

BusinessCloud has revealed its MedTech 50 and HealthTech 50 innovation rankings for 2021.

Readers of the online technology publication and an independent judging panel have together decided the 100 companies blazing a trail with original technology for the healthcare and medical sectors.

The MedTech 50 celebrates businesses helping to diagnose and treat conditions, mainly in a clinical setting such as a hospital, and other biotechnology companies.

Hy-genie, a hand hygiene monitoring solution, tops the ranking after producing “exceptional” results in boosting handwashing at Alder Hey hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fourth spot, behind Panakeia and Andiamo, is GripAble, a start-up digitising rehabilitation from hospital to home through hand-held sensors, software and data services.

The top five was rounded off by Xploro, a companion app for children undergoing cancer treatment in hospital. 

Isansys Lifecare, which has developed a remote patient monitoring platform combining wearable sensors, wireless connectivity, predictive AI analytics, dashboards and alerting, was in the top 15.

Ostara Biomedical, which is building products and affordable solutions to assist and guide prospective parents through the fertility pathway – from diagnosis to conception and birth – also made the ranking.

The HealthTech 50 focusses on companies creating tech for personal and preventative healthcare, as well as GP practice management and messaging platforms.

It was led by AccuRx ahead of Careology, which connects people with a cancer diagnosis to their family and friends, and to their clinicians, so they are fully supported in their journey.

Other companies in the top five include ZoomDoc, ORCHA and EMIS Health.

People Matter Technology, the company behind an ethical data-led platform, Okina, which supports positive mental wellbeing, made the top 10 ahead of Visionable.

Visionable is a clinical grade collaboration platform which enables the sharing of video, data and medical device imaging to support accelerated diagnostics and treatment decisions.

Dietary Assessment Ltd, which specialises in providing high-quality nutritional analysis software – myfood24 – to researchers, educators and healthcare professionals, lit up 16th spot.

BusinessCloud called on its readers to vote for companies from the 90-strong (MedTech 50) and 110-strong (HealthTech 50) shortlists and saw approximately 1,300 votes pour in on each.  

A combination of these votes and choices from an independent judging panel determined the top 50s.
