MRIguidance signs distribution agreement for 7D FLASH system

MRIguidance has signed an agreement with Orthofix to distribute its BoneMRI software with the 7D FLASH Navigation System. Patients in the United States can now benefit from a radiation-free preoperative imaging and spine surgery navigation solution.

The 7D FLASH Navigation System uses visible light to create a three-dimensional image for surgical navigation in seconds, enabling faster and more efficient spinal procedures. BoneMRI is the world’s first imaging technique that visualises both the bone and soft tissue from one imaging exam without the use of harmful radiation.

Dr. Jacob Rumley, an orthopaedic surgeon with the Center for Spine and Orthopedics in Denver, said: “I can now provide my patients a 100% radiation-free experience from their pre-op exam through the navigation imaging for their spine surgery. The dangers of radiation exposure to patients, hospital staff and surgeons are very real. Technologies like the 7D FLASH Navigation System that enable radiation-free navigation are essential as we continue to advance patient care.”

Using BoneMRI with navigation-equivalent scan protocols provides significant economic value, eliminates the radiation burden in surgical planning, and lowers radiation exposure for staff and patients during open procedures.

Dr. Beau Standish, president of Global Enabling Technologies at Orthofix, said: “Our team is passionate about radiation reduction and optimising clinical workflows to improve patient care and physician safety. The collaboration with MRIguidance and our combined innovations have extended this footprint of radiation reduction beyond the operating room into pre-operative patient imaging as part of our continuum of care. This is truly revolutionary.”

Marijn van Stralen, co-founder and chief technology officer at MRIguidance, added: “We are excited and proud to see BoneMRI software enabling and complementing the 7D FLASH Navigation System to offer a completely radiation-free pre- and intra-operative workflow for our patients and to protect the surgical team. This is the first time we have demonstrated the recurrent use of BoneMRI as an alternative to a CT scan. This marks the successful start to a fruitful collaboration with Orthofix to deliver radiation-free spine surgery.”
