Théa launches silk and cotton device for eye conditions

Théa Pharmaceuticals has launched the Blepha EyeBag; the newest addition to its Blepha eyelid care range. The Blepha EyeBag is a treatment for eye conditions including Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), Blepharitis, Stye, Chalazion and Dry Eye Disease.

It has been shown to relieve the symptoms of these conditions including grittiness, tiredness, redness, dryness, and eye irritation, after only 14 days of use. Making it the perfect allrounder to recommend to patients.

The Blepha EyeBag is a reusable compress that works by emitting heat that helps to soften the oily secretions in the eyelids, aiding the release of natural oils to maintain tear film and ocular comfort. Developed and recommended by ophthalmologists, the Blepha EyeBag is a reusable silk and cotton device that can be reheated up to 200 times. Its handmade design is free from additives and plastics. Production is entirely UK-based with all elements, including the flax contents, being locally sourced

An appropriate daily eye care routine is recommended by experts to keep the eyes and eye lids healthy, particularly for those patients with common eye conditions. Théa have devised a three-step method to help support patients:

  1. Warm and massage – using the Blepha EyeBag to warm and melt the oily secretions of the Meibomian glands, followed by massage which helps to release the oil.
  2. Cleanse – using BlephaClean to help remove the crusts, debris, and secretions.
  3. Hydrate and lubricate – using ThealozDuo to help hydrate and protect the ocular surface.

Dr Matthew Olsen, head of UK marketing, Théa Pharmaceuticals, said: “Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, amongst other eye conditions, can be painful and have a huge impact on patients. As we build on our commitment to raising awareness of the importance of looking after our eyes, we are pleased to add the Blepha EyeBag to complement our existing portfolio of products. Its provision of rapid and effective relief for a range of eye conditions and symptoms aids us in our efforts in addressing the needs of eye care professionals and patients.”

The Blepha EyeBag was developed in 2004 by Professor Teifi James, a UK-based consultant ophthalmologist and surgeon, who after many years of explaining how to use hot flannel compresses to numerous patients, decided to design and patent his own version which he then sold to Thea.

He said: “I am really pleased to hand over the reins of the Blepha EyeBag to Laboratories Théa. It’s the perfect addition to their Blepha range as the first step in an effective eyelid routine and I hope that people continue to enjoy its benefits.”
