MD&M East unveils conference lineup

The lineup for this year’s three-day Medical Design and Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference has been announced.

The event, which takes place on 13-15 June at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York, will feature many of the medtech industry’s most influential thought leaders and will cover a host of important and relevant topics.

Nina Brown, vice president, events at UBM said: “The 2017 MD&M East Conference lineup is one of the most detailed and expansive offerings to date, with a focus on relevant technologies of today and future trends. UBM consistently provides opportunities to learn and share information about emerging and expanding medical technologies from the top influencers in the field."

The three-day conference features two tracks in Design and Product Development featuring presentations, panels, demonstrations and case studies. This year's lineup includes speakers from Johnson and Johnson Medical Device Companies, Battelle, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Dexcom, Galen Robotics, Hologic, IBM Watson, Medtronic, MannKind Corporation, Medtronic and more.

Speakers from the event include Lia Pender of R&D, Dexcom, who will discuss the development of the artificial pancreas and the closed-loop systems and algorithms behind these devices. Bruce Lichorowic, CEO of Galen Robotics Galen Robotics will discuss advances in surgical robotic whilst Medtronic’s Drew Seils will talk about how the company developed its new Signia Powered Stapling System.

• Case Study: A User-Centered Approach to a Smarter Surgical StaplerSpeaker: Drew Seils, Senior Human Factors Design Engineer, MedtronicMedtronic is one of the biggest and most influential OEMs in medtech, and Seils will share insight into how the company developed its new Signia Powered Stapling System, a finalist in UBM's MDEA competition.
• Case Study and Demonstration: Technologies Converging to Advance Surgical Robotics Speaker: Bruce Lichorowic, CEO, Galen RoboticsThe surgical robotics space is bustling with new competitors and exciting innovations. Bruce Lichorowic, CEO, Galen Robotics, will give his take on new advances in surgical robotics and where the field is headed.
• Closing the Loop on Chronic Conditions Speaker: Liam Pender, Senior Director of R&D, DexcomDevice companies are racing to develop a true artificial pancreas that would automate insulin delivery for people with diabetes. Liam Pender, Senior Director of R&D, Dexcom, will discuss the evolution of these closed-loop systems and how to develop the algorithms behind them.
• Case Study: Selecting Sensors to Improve Device Performance Speaker: John Pocreva, Senior Engineer, MannKind CorporationSensor technology is moving rapidly in healthcare, and it's important for device developers to choose sensors that improve the function of their devices. • Using Your Quality and Risk Management Plan to Improve Design Controls Speaker: Darin Oppenheimer, Director of Regulatory Affairs, MerckMedical device engineers are expected to adhere to specific quality and risk management standards, and this session will focus on harnessing those requirements to tighten up design controls.
