Industrial Design Consultancy purchases Naiad Plastics

International product design company, Industrial Design Consultancy (IDC), has purchased Naiad Plastics, an injection moulding company based in Littlehampton, on the south coast of England.  

IDC’s MD Stephen Knowles said: “This is a really exciting move for IDC. Naiad’s injection moulding facility means we can expand our manufacturing services for customers. We can now offer complete product design and production services, as well as manufacturing only solutions for clients who solely need support with production. Naiad has opened the door to a wealth of plastics manufacturing experience, and this, in combination with IDC’s highly skilled team, brings unique capabilities across product design, prototyping, testing and production. This is particularly the case as we see more companies looking to manufacture in the UK.”  

Naiad will continue to operate from its base in Littlehampton, West Sussex, and will be run by its MD, David Wright. Naiad is well established in the plastic injection moulding industry and was founded in 1975. The company has strong environmental policies and works extensively with recycled plastics to support customers in improving the environmental impact of their products. With IDC’s support, Naiad is actively expanding the range of sustainable materials they process, including biodegradable, compostable and bio-based polymers as well as increasing recycled content.

Naiad’s MD, David Wright, talks about what the buyout means for Naiad: “Having worked in the plastic injection moulding industry for 35 years and the last 20 years with Naiad, I feel passionate that this is an exciting opportunity to update and expand Naiad. This will benefit existing customers with investment in new machinery, a much-improved working environment and give Naiad the capacity to assist new customers from concept to final product with the design capabilities of IDC.”

Naiad’s facilities include machines of all sizes from 20 tonne to 350 tonne. These are capable of moulding the most minute precision components to large structural parts, either in low or high volume. The company also offers tooling options, both in-house and through partners, as well as assembly solutions to turn manufactured parts into fully functional products.
