Messe Stuttgart announces new medtech platform following UBM’s departure

Messe Stuttgart has today announced plans to develop a new platform for the medical technology supply industry, a day after UBM announced it will combine its Medtec Europe event with MT-Connect in Nuremberg next year.

For 17 years UBM held its event at the Stuttgart venue, but with UBM intending to move Medtec to Nuremberg, Messe Stuttgart says it sees a window of opportunity for a new event.

“For us - and subject to the approval of UBM’s plans by the cartel authorities - this opens up a range of new possibilities. Together with exhibitors, multipliers and relevant media, we would like to implement a new format that centres even more on the interests of the medical technology industry. It will be a trade fair organised by the industry for the needs of the industry,” said Ulrich Kromer, CEO of Messe Stuttgart. In the coming week, the concept for the new event (which has not been named yet) will be refined further.

Playing home to more than 600 businesses, Messe Stuttgart claims that the region of Baden-Württemberg is a key European location in the field of medical technology. “The Stuttgart location is ideally suited to remain the market place of medical technology,” added Thomas Walter, vice president industrial solutions at Messe Stuttgart.

In addition to the market leaders of the industry, important research facilities are in the area, too. “Further synergies can be expected from our portfolio of supply and industrial trade fairs,“ Walter continued.
