Obstetrics player launches insert for bladder weakness

AGHealth, a medical device company specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, has launched a reusable silicone insert product for women struggling with bladder weakness.

Efemia Bladder Support is designed to reduce urinary leakage that results from a condition called ‘stress urinary incontinence’ (SUI) - the unintentional passing of urine when a physical movement or activity puts pressure on the bladder, such as coughing, laughing or sneezing.

It is estimated that up to half the female population will experience SUI at some time in their lives, especially after giving birth. The condition can significantly impact a woman’s daily life, prohibiting activities such as exercising and socialising, which often causes significant stress and anxiety.

Efemia’s design is based on the most common existing surgical solutions for SUI, providing a non-invasive alternative. It can be applied by women in their own home without specialist know-how or assistance. Available in three sizes, Efemia can be used for up to 16 hours and re-used daily for three months.

James Black of AGHealth, said: “Efemia Bladder Support already has a proven track record of success in Scandinavia, so we’re excited to be bringing this product to the UK market and empowering women across the country. SUI prevents women living normal lives and is often a source of embarrassment. We are offering a comfortable, cost-effective solution that we hope will appeal to this underserved market. SUI shouldn’t be a stigma or something to fear – we’re here to change that and help women live the life they want to.”
