Online pre-op assessment recognised with Association of Anaesthetists award

An online preoperative assessment programme has been recognised by The Association of Anaesthetists by winning the 2019 Award for Innovation in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain.

MyPreOp, developed by Ultramed CEO Dr Paul Upton, works by a patient entering their information into an account they are given when they are told they need an operation. They enter their information into MyPreOp. Patients own their account and choose to share their information with the healthcare provider. It aims to empower and engage patients when it comes to their care.

Dr Kathleen Ferguson, president at the Association of Anaesthetists, said: “It takes a special skill set to be inventive and even greater grit and determination to see the idea through to reality and then implementation. The Association recognises and applauds its innovation stars.”

Dr Upton received a certificate and prize money of £2,000. MyPreOp beat off competition from ‘two other nominees:

Dr Upton said: “I’m stunned to have won. It came as a great surprise. As a team we see this win as an opportunity to get MyPreOp rolled out across the NHS.”
