Orthopaedic surgery alternative to showcase at Arab Health
A non-surgical treatment that extracts fat cells from the stomach and injects them into painful joints will be showcased for the first time at Arab Health 2020.
The Regenerative Clinic – located in the Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) and the UAE – will be attending the exhibition to showcase its alternative treatment to orthopaedic surgery.
Lipogems is a minimally invasive procedure that encourages the body to heal itself naturally. The technology works by extracting natural repair cells (mesenchymal stem cells) from fat, which are then injected directly into the affected area (such as the hip, knee or elbow) – harnessing the rejuvenating properties of body fat to treat conditions such as arthritis.
The entire procedure from harvesting to the injection is completed in less than 30 minutes. Compared to the months of recovery associated with traditional joint replacement, the quick, non-surgical nature of the procedure means patients could return to normal activity after a day or so.
Alongside the practical implications in rejuvenating tissue and restoring mobility, surgeons have also found that the treatment also comes with a decrease in pain.
Lipogems technology is FDA approved in the USA, and CE marked in the UK. Over 25,000 procedures have been conducted worldwide with no post-procedural infections recorded and a striking early success rate.
The treatment is said to be as effective in knees as a knee replacement, but without the complications. As well as having a Harley Street based clinic in London, The Regenerative Clinic has also opened a new clinic in UAE that brings experts surgeons from Britain to the Middle East.
