Research finds at least 34 COVID-19 projects from European medtech start-ups

Oxford University data visualisation spin-out Zegami has produced analysis that shows there are at least 34 on-going COVID-19 projects from European based medtech start-ups aimed at supporting healthcare professionals.

This includes a project from Zegami where it’s using x-rays of COVID-19 infected lungs to build a machine learning model to assist health professionals to identify cases of COVID-19.

Zegami’s research found that 11 of the 34 COVID-19 projects from European medtech start-ups it identified are from UK based companies. This is followed by Switzerland and Sweden, where it identified four and three projects respectively.

Roger Noble, CEO and founder of Zegami said: “It is very encouraging to see such a positive and proactive response from Europe’s start-up medtech sector in the fight against COVID-19. Many, like us, are also providing their services for free.

“There is little doubt that the industry has a huge role to play in defeating this disease.”
