AI-powered technology develops new system for skin cancer detection

Medical imaging systems manufacturer FotoFinder Systems has announced the development of Automated Total Body Mapping technology that enables the use of total body dermoscopy.

The system aims to set new standards when it comes to skin cancer diagnostics. In addition to the platform for skin cancer diagnostics, the device offers optional modules for hair diagnostics, aesthetics as well as for the management of psoriasis patients using the PASIscan. In addition, FotoFinder is leading the way in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the technology for early skin cancer detection.

The system will be presented to experts for the first time from 10th to 15th June 2019 at the "24th World Congress of Dermatology" (WCD) in Milan.

The FotoFinder bodystudio ATBM master offers optimised skin cancer diagnostics in the form of Total Body Dermoscopy. With the help of extremely high-resolution (50 megapixels), polarised and specially processed full body photos (RAW format), the structure of skin lesions can already be evaluated by the physician based on a clinical image.

In addition, video dermatoscopes allow a deep visual journey into the smallest cell structures of the skin - with up to 400x magnification. The integrated fully automated Bodyscan technology identifies the existing skin lesions out of the total body image and arranges them according to their relevance. This enables the physician to identify atypical moles or lesions – the “ugly duckling sign” – that are different from the others at first glance. Modern encryption technologies and a new user administration also ensure data protection-compliant work and the protection of sensitive patient data.

With the new FotoFinder bodystudio ATBM master generation, a complete, consistent and extremely high-resolution documentation of the skin is possible twice as fast as with the predecessor model. Thanks to a new workflow, conspicuous, new and changed moles can be diagnosed much faster and more precisely than before, which particularly simplifies the management of high-risk patients."

The AI-based software Moleanalyzer pro supports the physicians in the analysis and risk assessment of skin lesions. In the "Man against Machine" study conducted at the University Hospital of Heidelberg, the FotoFinder algorithm achieved high scores for sensitivity and specificity and can compete with experienced dermoscopy experts in terms of its diagnostic accuracy.
