Therapy device manufacturer showcases new gait trainer at Medica

A therapy device manufacturer launched a new gait trainer at this year’s Medica trade fair in Dusseldorf.

Tyromotion introduced the prototype of Lexo which detects and supports active walking. The device will aim to train gait patterns, muscle strength, posture control and endurance.

The company claims it will decrease cardiovascular stress, fall risk, the fear of unfamiliar movements and immobility.

The device is a continuation of its pre-gait trainer Omego which patients use to train the basics for walking and can be put into practice with Lexo.

Lexo can be used by those severely impaired in order to take the first steps back to mobility with clinical tests starting now and from the middle of 2019, up to five reference devices will be available for clinical testing.

The gait trainer is aimed at making the therapy process comfortable for both the patients and therapists with the inclusion of sophisticated technology and highly intensive training.

Dr Alexander Kollreider, CTO at Tyromotion, said: "We realised that conventional gait and locomotion trainers are characterised by effortful patient transfer and therefore, low net-therapy-time. With Lexo we solve exactly this problem.”
