Two firms partner with aim of increasing medical cart security

A healthcare IT security company has announced a partnership with Howard Medical to extend the availability of its medical device access with the aim of increased security.

Imprivata will work with the US healthcare technology firm to provide secure access to medical storage carts. The carts are then sold by Distec in the UK and Ireland.

Carina Edwards, senior vice president of customer experience at Imprivata, said: “In today’s complex Internet of Medical Things, healthcare organisations are faced with the challenge of protecting the security and integrity of the information stored on and transmitted through medical devices without impeding on clinical productivity. By partnering with Howard Medical, we’re pleased to give our joint customers the ability to implement and enforce the security of sensitive workflows performed on medical storage carts, without affecting clinical workflows.”

Imprivata’s medical device access will be integrated directly into the Distec-provided E-series of Howard Medical’s carts, with the aim of healthcare organisations enforcing stronger access control protocols through the use of a proximity badge tap.

Brian Swistak, VP of sales at Howard Medical said: “We’re excited to partner with Imprivata and integrate the leading identification solution in healthcare today for securely accessing our cart storage. We view the integration as another milestone in our continued efforts to partner with the right innovative companies to provide increased customer benefits, as we redefine healthcare technology with patient engagement.”

Adrian Swindells, Director of Distec added: “The collaborative partnership between Howard Medical and Imprivata means that our customers will be able to deliver trusted, high-quality care in a safe and secure manner, while improving productivity and the patient experience.”
