What an Electromagnetic Compatibility Chamber can offer

Medical Engineering Technologies’ (MET) Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Chamber, can offer a variety of testing including analytical chemistry, biocompatability and human factor studies, drug delivery device testing, design validation, packaging and transit simulation.

The EMC Chamber was first put in place in 2017 and opened for business in 2018 with clients coming from both the UK and mainland Europe. The range of testing includes; emissions testing, immunity testing, transient testing, magnectic field and harmonics and flicker.

Managing director Mark Turner offers an example of what the chamber can be used for, saying: “We use EMC testing to ensure that the electronics within an in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) bio-marker for a stroke patient does not interfere with the pacemeaker operating in a patient in the bed next door, whilst showing that the IVD is immune to signals coming from the pacemaker.

“The chamber can serve more than just the medical/laboratory sector, and it has expanded to include clients from industrial, retail and consumer products, multi-media, lighting, maritime and many more. We have worked with a range of design engineers and they all say the same thing, that “EMC testing during the key stages of product development provides valuable knowledge of how a product will operate in its intended environment and a better understanding of what it takes to make a product compliant.””
