While I have been flying the flag for digital technology in the healthcare sector for years now, it was really good to read a piece from DigitalHealth.Net based on a reader survey that highlighted the role technology has in the future of healthcare. It is also good to see that despite these very testing times – personally and economically – the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to a positive change in the way care is delivered and accessed for all of us.
According to the news site: ”Four-fifths of Digital Health News readers have said they believe the outbreak of COVID-19 will help speed up the adoption of digital tools across the NHS”. While I’m slightly saddened that it takes something as big as a global viral attack to make us realise the positive effect digital technology can have within a clinical setting, I’m heartened to see it finally being given the status and use it deserves.
On a daily basis, Med-Tech Innovation News, Medical Plastics News and European Pharmaceutical manufacture discuss the ways that digital solutions can bring immense benefits to the healthcare and pharma sectors. It’s nothing new to us. We talk to companies that are doing amazing things with technology and we even have a government and health secretary that is putting its money where its mouth is in terms of encouraging innovation, as well as the adoption and uptake of digital devices and healthtech products over the coming years.
It has always astounded me that while we have so readily adopted technology into the rest of our lives, there are many naysayers when it comes to its use in healthcare. As the world faces a huge healthcare crisis, it’s suddenly apparent that these innovations are the way forward. It’s a no-brainer for me. Illnesses don’t grind to a halt just because we’ve been told to socially distance ourselves. Healthtech holds the answers not just now but in the future. Gains in time, financial benefits, diagnostic accuracy and the ability to offer round-the clock monitoring and care, mean that this technology is a win-win for all of us.
We’ve been covering many of these innovations on Med-Tech Innovation News for some time now. With COVID-19 so high on the agenda, we’d love to hear more from those business working in this exciting sector.
