A falls prevention technology, developed in Scotland, has been announced as a finalist in the ITEC Awards.

Shortlisted in the Innovation in TEC Award category, ARMED (Advanced Risk Modelling for Early Detection), developed by HAS Technology, combines data analytics modelling with wearable technology.
Organised by TSA (The Voice of Technology Enabled Care), the awards were created to celebrate the impact technology-enabled care services have on the lives of people in the UK.
Originally deployed as falls prevention technology, ARMED has the flexibility for its wearable data to be tailored for a range of care and support settings including care homes, sheltered housing, supported living and retirement living.
ARMED challenges the health and social care industry to think differently about the use of technology and to better understand the human benefits it can bring to service users.
Brian Brown, director of ARMED at HAS Technology Group said: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for this technology award and even more pleased that technology is currently having such a positive impact within the health and social care industry.
“Digital transformation needs to be embraced by the sector as a whole and when you begin to see how technology is improving lives, increasing independence and preventing health issues before they arise, the benefits cannot be ignored.”
ARMED was developed with support from Edinburgh Napier University and Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Institute (DHI), as well as being in the 1% of companies chosen to be a Microsoft partner.
Winners of the awards will be announced at a gala dinner on the evening of the 15th October, following The International Technology Enabled Care Conference 2019 in Birmingham.
An ARMED user at Loreburn Housing Association said: “The ARMED technology gives me reassurance and is making me more aware of how active I keep.”
