The inaugural Medilink Midlands Innovation Day is being held on Thursday 12th May at The DoubleTree by Hilton, Coventry with around 180 delegates and exhibitors drawn from life science companies of all sizes and specialisms expected to attend.
Medilink Midlands is a business support organisation working alongside the Midlands Engine and other strategic alliances, to help stimulate additional and value-added growth of the Midlands as a prosperous community for Life Sciences.
Headlining the event, which is sponsored by Coventry University, is Sir John Peace, chairman of Midlands Engine. He will present alongside a wide range of speakers, including Rhys Donovan, from Direct Healthcare Group, a €113million pan-European medical device manufacturer and Professor Michael Lewis, the joint director for the National Institute for Health Research’s Invention for Innovation and SBRI Healthcare programmes. Medilink Midlands is also delighted to welcome back Vivienne Parry OBE to facilitate this event.
This year’s speakers will be covering a vast array of topics throughout the day including “The Midlands Health and Life Sciences sector – our regional strength,” by Sir John Peace, “How the UK can lead the way in Healthcare Innovation,” by Rhys Donovan, of Direct Healthcare Group and “Do I get my fair share of grant funding?” by Professor Michael Lewis, joint director for the NIHR i4I and SBRI Healthcare programmes.
As well as the variety of speakers there will also be an opportunity for Innovation Day delegates to meet with over 30 life science organisations who are exhibiting at the conference.
Simon Himsworth, CEO of Medilink Midlands, said: “Medilink Midlands is delighted to hold our Innovation Day, which will become our annual flagship event. It will offer fantastic opportunities for collaboration and connectivity to our members, regional partners, government, and the wider life sciences sector where we all can come together to showcase activity, meet and reconnect with our existing networks and form new partnerships. Medilink Midlands sits at the heart of business, academia, government, and the NHS, and it is through our network and industry influence that we are able to bring these elements together, and meet the delivery needs of both the Government’s Levelling Up and life sciences industry vision agendas, in one place. We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways where we can add value and support the regions’ life sciences community, working in partnership with other organisations who share our ambitions for the sector. Innovation Day is a prime example of this, and I look forward to working alongside our partners and stakeholders to showcase the very latest and greatest sector developments within the Midlands life science industry.”
Darren Clark, deputy chair of Medilink Midlands, added: “Innovation Day has been a mainstay for the East Midlands Life Science community since 2003 and now under Simon’s guiding hand I am confident it will continue to be for the whole Midlands.”
