St Austell-based injection-moulder, Polymermedics, will exhibit at Med Tech Innovation Expo 2024 with newly completed Class 7 Cleanroom manufacturing services to sell.
"We are delighted to be bringing many new manufacturing competences and services up to the annual NEC show from June 5-6," said Polymermedics Operations Director, Neil Skyba. "Visitors to our stand will recognise that our entire production culture – since 1979 - has always been geared to the exacting demands of the medical sector."
Skyba adds: "The last twelve months have seen us developing many new production capabilities in a very active manner. This newly finished Class 7 cleanroom – equipped with four Wittmann SmartPower injection moulding machines – is the jewel in our crown going forward."
Visitors to the show will be able to discuss placing new projects and new business within the new facility. The project build was carried out by KiiK. Keanu Churchyard, Managing Director of KiiK said: "We have extensive experience in the medical field. After several visits we were ready to tackle the unique demands of the legacy space – a high triangular roof that required a unique design and solution for the air handling system. It was a pleasure to work with Neil, Lee and the team at Polymermedics. I am sure that the investment will reap many dividends."
Polymermedics says the new Class 7 cleanroom investment confirms the status of the company as a premier supplier to the international medical and healthcare markets. With over 45 years of medical manufacturing behind it, Polymermedics says it is confident that it has the very highest standards in international medical manufacturing. Polymermedics is also accredited to the Silver EcoVadis environmental standard.
Skyb adds: "Many international medical businesses now set very expensive thresholds in terms of the money that must be spent on process validation for all their contracted manufacturing. Fortunately, our business has already accumulated all the major relevant standards – and so our cleanroom is therefore ready-to-go for the largest OEM customers as well as the solo designer and medical inventor."
Polymermedics currently employs a total of seventy-five staff – including four apprentices, three process setter apprentices and five tooling staff. The facility is home to a total of 35 injection moulding machines with robotics and automation, ranging from 5 to 350 tonnes – running 24/7 through the year.
Polymermedics has also lately invested in a fully equipped precision engineering facility and a state-of-the-art metrology department.
Skyba concludes: "We are happy to regularly push the boundaries and possibilities in medical manufacturing – commissioning a 128-cavity mould tool this week or trialling water soluble catheters in PVOH materials. We are very much looking forward to showing our full and current strength at next month’s Med Tech Expo – and we hope to see you there."
