The Irish Medtech Association, the Ibec group that represents the medtech sector has announced that Limerick-based Serosep has been awarded Irish Medtech Company of the Year at the Association’s annual Medtech Rising conference, hosted jointly with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland.
Irish Medtech Association director Sinead Keogh said: “These awards offer a change for the medtech community to gather virtually to recognise and celebrate the strength and importance of the industry in improving life. We’re delighted to announce Serosep as this year’s Irish Medtech Company of the Year. Serosep isa self-funded, family run business, and manufactures Clinical Diagnostic products to over 35 different countries spread over five continents. The company is 25 years in business and employs 114 at its headquarters in Annacotty, Co Limerick.”
Dermot Scanlon, CEO & founder of Serosep Ltd, said that: “Serosep’s innovative diagnostic test solutions have disrupted the market and changed the way Gastroenteritis is tested in clinical laboratories. EntericBio is now the market leader in Ireland and the UK with many more markets adopting the test on a routine basis. We are currently manufacturing in excess of 1 million tests in our state-of-the-art facility, matched with our ability to deliver excellent customer service sets us apart from the competition. Winning this award is testimony to the hard work, commitment, and dedication of all our employees. Sinead Keogh added: “This year’s ‘Medtech Rising: Irish Medtech Awards’ included two new categories. We’d like to congratulate Alcon Ireland for winning the Sustainable Medtech company of the Year for its comprehensive sustainability programme, driven by its Site Leadership team. We’d also congratulate West for winning the Best Medtech Talent Strategy Award, for their strategy to develop talent for the future titled ‘Our Talent Our Future.”
Enterprise Ireland’s head of life sciences Deirdre Glenn said: “We’re proud to recognise the role that start-ups and SMEs play in Ireland’s dynamic medtech ecosystem. This year’s Emerging Medtech Company of the Year has been awarded to Luminate Medical, an NUI Galway spin-out that has developed a novel technology to prevent chemotherapy induced hair loss.
“We’re also delighted for VERTIGENIUS which won the eHealth Innovation of the Year Award. VERTIGENIUS has created a platform to enable enhanced clinical and patient engagement in the treatment of balance problems. It is healthcare platform aligned with healthcare needs as they are evolving maximising the use of ICT to facilitate clinical service delivery through digital technologies.
“Aerogen has been at the forefront of medical response to the pandemic with their products being used with over 3 million hospitalised and critically ill patients since March 2020. In addition, Aerogen has developed the of the world’s first Inhaled Vaccine Station which for which it has won this years’ COVID-19 Response Recognition Award.”
IDA Ireland’s medtech department manager Rachel Shelly said: “Academic partnerships play a vital role in developing disruptive technologies in the medtech sector and the winner of the Academic Contribution to Medtech Award is Biomechanics Research Centre. The industry focused technology developed by BioMEC integrates the latest in silico computational models to simulate the mechanical performance of implanted coronary stents.
“It’s terrific also to acknowledge the success of Jabil Healthcare Bray which won the Medtech Partner/Supplier of the Year Award for its new product offering in molecular diagnostics launching a COVID PCR testing device; and to acknowledge the company’s success achieving elite Shingo status.
“The Women in Leadership Company Initiative Award recognises companies that proactively take steps to increase the number of women in Medtech and advancing to leadership positions. In this its first year I’m delighted to see the award going to Cook Medical for its solid commitment to gender balance in the workplace.”
