SINBON is a provider of electronic component design, manufacturing, and integration services to the medical devices sector and the first company in Asia to be successfully audited by MedAccred for the cable and wire harness standard.
MedAccred is an industry-managed supply chain oversight programme that focuses on critical manufacturing processes in the medical device industry to enhance patient safety, improve quality and reduce product recalls.
Audit requirements for MedAccred are set by its subscribers, which include some of the largest manufacturers in the medical device sector – Bausch Health, Baxter, BD, Boston Scientific, Edwards Lifesciences, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Philips, Roche Diagnostics and Stryker.
SINBON became aware of the MedAccred program and decided to work for the accreditation when a large medical industry customer required the company to conform to the electronics industry’s IPC/WHMA – A – 620 Class 2 standard, or another higher-level standard, to provide external validation of its processes.
SINBON Electronics quality manager Molly Xu said: “This was when we found MedAccred and realised what it could do for us in terms of improving efficiencies by reducing waste and boosting our reputation with customers around the world.
“We reviewed our processes, introduced several adjustments, and then undertook the audit, which took four days and was carried out by an external expert in cable and wire harness. We were very proud when our team in Jiangyin successfully demonstrated that our processes are fully compliant with the audit requirements.”
The MedAccred Accreditation and Re-accreditation processes have replaced SINBON’s own internal audit and driven the company to make improvements, for example reducing waste for one customer from 500 defective parts per million (DPPM) to 300 and reducing costs for the business and its customers.
