Covestro (the spin-out which previously formed Bayer's material science division) promises punters "game-changing applications" at MD&M West in Anaheim this week.
The big news from Covestro is the launch of its Makroblend M4000 FR polycarbonate/polybutylene terephthalate (PC+PBT) blend. Designed for applications in patient monitoring, diagnostic, fluid delivery and medication delivery systems, the blend has been formulated specifically for OEMs seeking materials that are safe for skin contact, combined with flame retardancy and chemical resistance.
Covestro will also display customised polyurethane films and raw materials for adhesives and foams to address both patch fixation and embedding of electronics functions for wearables.
Several end-use applications using Covestro materials and technologies will be on display at the stand, including a portable respiratory device and disposable polycarbonate instruments used in conjunction with orthopedic implant surgery.
Covestro offers a portfolio of polycarbonate resins, blends and films; thermoplastic polyurethane films; and polyurethane-based adhesives and foams – all formulated for the medical device and healthcare market.
