A virtual reality training tool that delivers immersive simulations with haptic technology will be showcased on the ABHI UK Pavilion at Arab Health 2020.
The surgical training aid is delivered by FundamentalVR, whose platform Fundamental Surgery enables rehearsal of medical and surgical procedures, providing data insight into competency and skills development. The platform is, with partners including The Mayo Clinic, UCLH and UCLA and is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Five back-to-back demonstrations will be delivered live on the ABHI UK Pavilion from 10:30am – 11:45am on the 27th January 2019. The demonstrations, delivered by consultant surgeon Omar Sabri, will explain how, why and what is beneficial about the platform when used for surgical training.
Speaking about the technology, Mr Sabri said: “The Fundamental Surgery platform is an incontrovertible leader in the field, providing me with deep data insight into my cohort, whilst monitoring key trends and insights. Throughout each simulation a user's skills and knowledge are assessed and measured within the system, providing feedback on instrument use, procedural accuracy, knowledge, decision making and patient impact.”
Managing director, international, ABHI, Paul Benton added: “Virtual Reality takes users into a virtual world, where they can move around a virtual patient, whilst having the ability to make complex surgical decisions in a safe environment. To have innovative companies like FundamentalVR showcase the latest capabilities of this technology is really exciting, and I very much look forward to seeing this displayed at Arab Health.”
Arab Health takes place 27 January – 30 January 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
